Visualization To Reduce Stress

Visualization or imagery can be an effective way to reduce stress.

Imagery is a more active process than meditation, and for some people who are stressed and can’t turn of their thinking, mental imagery can be easier to use to reduce stress.

Mental imagery involves creating an image of a peaceful and relaxing scene.

When you use mental imagery, you create nerve impulses that activate certain areas of the brain, which are similar to if you were really doing the task.

Because your brain doesn’t tell the difference between what is real or imagined, by using your mind to re-create a relaxing place, you can bring up sensory experiences that can relax you.

The stronger and more realistic is the sensory experience the more intense will be the relaxation experience.

For example, you may imagine lying on a beach feeling the warm rays of the sun on your skin, as you smell the salt air and hear the waves lapping the shore.

What is important is that the image that you have in your mind’s eye gives you a sense of calm and relaxation.

Imagery can be used as a means to distress after a hard day’s work.

This type of mental imagery is also used by athletes and business professionals to not only reduce their stress, but to re-live and practice their performance.
