Stress Symptoms

While it is very difficult to avoid stress, knowing your stress symptoms can be an important part of dealing with stress. The symptoms of stress can be physical, emotional and/or behavioral.

For example, have you ever noticed that when you are stressed that your heart rate speeds up, there is an increase in blood pressure and you get butterflies in your stomach.

You may also notice an increase in muscle tension - which can result in TMJ (tension in the jaw). This increased muscle tension can also lead to tension headaches or migraines.

These are some of the physical effects of stress.

However there are a number of things that is also happening mentally. When under stress it may become difficult to concentrate or focus on what you need to do.

For example, you often see athletes choke under stress - routines they have practiced hundreds of times in training falls apart in the big event.

Some of the emotional effects of stress may result in increased anxiety and worry, episodes of depression, and an increase in the incidence of anger. If anger is something that is hard for you to control, these anger management tips may be useful.

Often the behavioral symptoms of stress are increased absenteeism, reduced productivity, fatigue and increased sleeping problems or use of drugs and alcohol.
