Stress and High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is related to the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, especially when it is present with other risk factors.

blood pressure Blood pressure is simply the force of the blood pushing on the walls of the arteries, as the heart pumps blood around the body. If this pressure remains high for a period of time, then this can have harmful effects on the body.

Stress can result in an increase in blood pressure.

In addition, the hormones, such as cortisol, that are released in the fight or flight response can result in the blood vessels constricting, which further increases blood pressure.

This increased blood pressure can increase the risk of coronary heart disease (which leads to heart attack) and stroke, as plaque can build up on the insides of the artery walls.

As arteries narrow, the heart needs to work harder to pump the blood and oxygen around the body, which in turn increases the chances of coronary heart disease.

If you have increased levels of blood pressure you can take steps to control it, which can reduce your risks for related health problems.

Some steps include following a healthy lifestyle, having ongoing medical care, and following the treatment plan that your doctor prescribes.

Some natural stress management techniques can also help to reduce your blood pressure. For example some health benefits of meditation are lower blood pressure, while yoga is also a great stress reliever and can lower your blood pressure.

You can also do progressive muscle relaxation or breathing exercises to lower blood pressure.

These natural stress relievers can lower blood pressure and promote healthy living.
