If the thought of learning relaxation techniques makes your more stressed then these easy relaxation techniques are for you. They are not difficult and you can try one or two of them today. 1. Remove yourself from the cause of stress If a co-worker or friend is really stressing you out then politely leave the room and get some fresh air. Knowing your warning signs of stress and getting out for a while gives you the space to relax and re-gather your thoughts 2. Count to 10 When stressed it is easy to react to what is causing you stress. This creates even more stress. To break this cycle of increasing stress trying taking a deep breath and as you exhale count to ten. These breathing and relaxation techniques take a similar approach. 3. Drink relaxing tea Chamomile tea is the tea of choice for me when I am stressed. Chamomile tea has a calming effect on the mind and the body. Avoid caffeine as it is a psuedostressor. 4. Take a bath or hot shower Hot water relaxes any excess muscle tension (a common symptom of stress) and helps to interrupt the stress cycle. You could combine your hot bath with relaxation products. Bring your attention to your breathing and increase your awareness of the present. By focusing on your breathing it is difficult to think of anything else. This is the basis of this mindful meditation exercise. 6. Laugh more Scientific research is starting to show that laughter is indeed the best medicine. Laughter relaxes you and helps to re-frame those things that are causing you stress. Look to bring more laughter into your life through jokes, seeing the funny side of things, or attending laughter yoga sessions. 7. Listen to music Music has the potential to break down your emotional barriers and touch your inner self. Have your favorite relaxation CD handy at the office, in the car, or at home.
