Depression raises the stress hormone - which could lead to obesity in girls

by Kell

In a study recently published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, it was found the the stress hormone cortisol is raised in depression.

The findings of the study show that the stress hormone was raised in both boys and girls - but that only for girls may this raised levels of stress hormones lead to obesity.

The study included 111 children aged 8 to 13.

The implication of this study is that teen depression needs to be treated early on - which would reduce cortisol and hence obesity.
