Cheap Stress Busters
by James
Deep breaths and relaxing music could be just as effective as easing stress and anxiety as a pricey massage.
In a study to be published in the journal 'Depression and Anxiety' 68 anxious people were split into groups and given treatments of deep breathing, massages, or thermotherapy (wrapping limbs in warm towels).
What was found that after 12 weeks of treatment that the anxiety symptoms had reduced by roughly 40% - and the study's patients reported less depression and less worry.
What was surprising was that the benefits of massage were no greater than relaxing music or thermotherapy.
What is important is that breathing is free while massage and thermotherapy can cost $100 a session.
Hi James,
Thanks for that research on the journal 'Depression and Anxiety'.
Breathing is one of the simplest and most effective strategies to reduce stress. I talk more about the different breathing exercises that you can use and how these deep breathing techniques can reduce stress.
All the best
