Acrophobia is a Fear of Heights

Acrophobia is a fear of heights. When you think about it, such a fear makes a lot of sense, as we were not designed to fly.

However, a fear of heights becomes a problem when it is irrational and interferes with daily living.

Such a fear of heights can see people afraid to use escalators in shopping centers, walk across bridges, ascend a flight of stairs or climb a ladder.

These fears can impact your daily living.

Imagine how good it will be when confidence replaces fear in these situations. Or when you can describe these fear of height symptoms as though you're talking about a character in a movie, and not you!

There are a number of ways to deal with a fear of heights

One such way is through hypnosis which can be used to reprogram the subconscious.

Another method may be through graded exposure. This is where the sufferer creates a list of increasingly difficult height situations.

A professional then guides the person through the easiest height where they stay until they are desensitized.

Over time they move up the list of difficult height situations. This is similar to gently entering an icy pool one small toe at a time, rather than the shock tactic of jumping in.
